Background
Rick was born and raised in Berkeley, California. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. After graduation, he worked in corporate tax accounting and finance for The Cheesecake Factory and The Boston Consulting Group. In 2001, he transitioned from the corporate world to opening a private practice in the area of taxation. He received a Master of Science in Taxation and became enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service.
Recognizing a natural connection between taxation and the law, as well as an interest in estate, gift and business tax, Rick decided to pursue a legal education. While attending law school at Golden Gate University School of Law, Rick was the recipient of the CALI award for achievement in Writing and Research I. He interned for The Franchise Tax Board and Board of Equalization, where he represented low-income taxpayers in resolving legal tax matters. He was honored on the dean list for several semesters. In 2010, he received a Juris Doctorate with a Certificate of Specialization With Distinction in Taxation Law. During law school, Rick continued to grow and evolve his clientele and practice.
Rick is the Co-Founder of Naish Davis Cancer Foundation, along with his sister and brother-in-law. This 501(c)(3) organization focuses on providing funds for low-income cancer patients who need financial assistance with necessities for daily living while they undergo treatment. The foundation was established in memory of Rick’s father, Rolly Naish, who died of a rare cancer in 1999. To date, the foundation has raised over $100,000 and given way thousands of dollars to cancer patients around the country. The foundation is Rick’s way of honoring his father, as well as the many others afflicted by this disease. He also enjoys spending time with his family and friends, travel abroad (Spain, Greece and Argentina are favorites), NYC, great restaurants, sun/surf/sand, the gym, biking, meeting new people and serving his clients.
Rick is admitted to the bar in the State of California. He is also admitted to the US Tax Court.
Rick is a member of the American Bar Association, CALBar, the Bar Association of San Francisco, and the Alameda County Bar Association.
